Ken Ingle

One of Ingle's former staff members may have summed up his innovative spirit best: “Ken Ingle is a visionary leader with a broad range of technical expertise who is remarkably adept at staying ahead of the curve, considering the fast-changing nature of technology.” Ingle is a leader who is passionately using technology to help students succeed. As an advocate of increasing technology availability in higher education and closing the affordability gap for low-income students to access technology resources, it’s no surprise he has been a key player in Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s digital transformation.

In the past year, the college has launched a mobile application, unveiled a new smart classroom design, deployed campus-wide wireless Internet, and implemented a new online planning and registration system. Under Ingle's leadership, the college is also launching a data analytics platform, which will combine data from the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, learning management system (LMS), student conduct system and other ancillary systems to perform predictive analytics at the institutional and student level. The goals are to identify students at risk, create automatic interventions, and deliver detailed learning metrics to students and administration. The data analytics platform will provide insights to the larger campus community on how to improve the overall educational experience for all students, faculty and staff.

As an additional example of Ingle's willingness to embrace consumer technology and commitment to innovation, he is spearheading a campus-wide BYOD program. True to his passion of making technology accessible to all, the program will allow all students to use their personal devices for learning and will provide deeply discounted devices to students who may not have one.

Ingle says technology should complement the learning experience, and not impede it. To accomplish this, he regularly meets with other divisions of the college to build partnerships, share best practices and move education technology initiatives forward. He also extends his knowledge to the larger education community, speaking at events and visiting education institutions to help implement technology solutions.

Due to his leadership, Rowan-Cabarrus was recognized as a Top 10 Digital Community College by the Center for Digital Education. When it comes to technology in education, Ingle often says, “You need to find a way to make it happen, not an excuse for why it can't.” He has made no excuses during his time at Rowan-Cabarrus and has made it possible for all students to achieve success through the use of technology.
