Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute became the first university to host a donated IBM Watson system on campus.
The high-powered computing system with 15 terabytes of hard disk storage will give researchers and students an opportunity to analyze large amounts of data. Up to 20 users can access the system at the same time on the institute's New York campus.
Watson became famous for its fast analysis after beating two human Jeopardy! champions in 2011. And now, faculty and students will look for ways to improve the supercomputer's reasoning and cognitive abilities. They'll also find different industry applications for it.
