The law requires public bodies to post their meeting agendas and minutes online, including the agendas and minutes for committee meetings. This public posting allows the public to know what issues are coming up, when the next meeting will take place and what decisions were made.
In New Orleans, most schools are charter schools, and just seven of 40 schools that The Lens examined posted meeting minutes online. For the schools' part, some said they didn't know about the laws, didn't take notes electronically or had technical problems with their website. Others didn't respond, but also updated some of their posting habits after the investigation.
