Because of the large numbers of districts served, these networks help districts save money and get faster bandwidth at the same time, according to the report from the State Educational Technology Directors Association and Common Sense Kids Action. Twenty of these states offer Internet services through their networks, while 16 also provide network management.
Wyoming changed the way it procures technology for its network and as a result has been able to increase its network capacity by 96 percent, the report found. Five years ago, just two school districts could have Ethernet, and now each of the state's 48 school districts can access it.
