Kansas Partners with Education Nonprofit for New Broadband Initiative

The Kansas Connect and Learn Initiative is based on a partnership between Kansas state agencies and a nonprofit organization called EducationSuperHighway.

On Nov. 29, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback announced a new state education program called the Kansas Connect and Learn Initiative, which aims to expand broadband access in public schools across the state.

“Modern education is moving online; our students must be there too,” said Evan Marwell, founder and CEO of EducationSuperHighway, which has partnered with the state to make these connections a reality. “At EducationSuperHighway, our mission is student connectivity. We want to ensure that every student in America, no matter where he or she lives, has access to high-speed Internet, and all the digital learning opportunities that come with it."

Marwell founded EducationSuperHighway in 2012 in an attempt to make Internet access available to any and all classrooms in America. The organization will provide free data analysis and technical upgrades to broadband networks for Kansas school districts.

Brownback, who fully supports the program, said that ensuring “every classroom in our state has high-speed Internet is the first essential step to enabling digital learning and unleashing the potential of our children to compete in the 21st-century workforce.”
