University of North Florida Receives $1.4 Million to Train Math, Science Teachers

(TNS) -- The University of North Florida won $1.4 million from the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Fellowship to help fund the Jacksonville Teacher Residency program.

The program in UNF’s College of Education and Human Services puts graduates of science, technology, engineering and math disciplines into Duval schools to become math or science teachers. The money will help support 15 residents currently teaching at Andrew Jackson High, Raines High, Gilbert Middle, Highlands Middle and Northwestern Middle schools.

The Noyce fellows will receive a living stipend during their apprentice year and a $10,000 salary supplement during their “induction” as new teachers.
