Stimulus Dollars and School Connectivity: Why Grant Language and TCO Matter

June 19, 2009

School is almost out, but work continues over the summer on making the most of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (2009) in extending the nation's network infrastructure and modernizing schools.  A new webinar from Converge, the Center for Digital Education and St. Bernard software provides practical help in:

  1. Knowing what's happening with connectivity funding under the "Stim"
  2. Thinking through Grant Language and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to compete well and ensure you can afford to own what you buy
  3. Learning about a new national study of TCO of web filtering and how it can help you make decisions to bring down long term costs

Federal stimulus dollars are flowing into communities across the country with new spending on infrastructure, including school modernization and networks.  These investments create the opportunity for schools to re-deploy resources to support learning and student achievement. District leaders nationwide are being asked to save money and cut costs while maintaining campuses at lower costs and ensuring a high quality educational experience.  The stimulus can help, so can a fresh perspective on costs and the importance of making careful choices to avoid unintended bow waves or "funding cliffs" after one-time funding such as the ARRA is gone.

This webinar will provide an overview of what's happening with connectivity funding and the Stimulus, plus give a briefing on formulating your grant requests including discussion of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).  An in-depth analysis will include a sample TCO on web filtering to help you understand how to shift your strategies to include TCO analysis in your buying process.
