Dr. Washington is a veteran educator who has served for more than 25 years in multiple roles including curriculum facilitator, principal, personnel director, associate superintendent, and classroom teacher. In her current role of Chief Instructional Officer in Aiken County Public Schools, she provides leadership to all schools to strengthen curriculum and improve instructional practices and student and school performance through the use of data and the comprehensive assessment of student achievement.
Under her leadership as principal of two elementary schools, both received the Red Carpet School award, Palmetto Gold and Silver awards, and Closing the Gap awards. In addition, Reidville Elementary School in Spartanburg received the Exemplary Writing award and School of Promise award, under Washington’s leadership. As principal of Brushy Creek Elementary in Greenville, SC, the school received the highly-coveted Palmetto’s Finest finalist award. During her tenure as principal at Brushy Creek, Dr. Washington was also named Greenville County Schools’ Administrator of the Year.
In her current role of Chief Instructional Officer in Aiken County Public Schools, Dr. Washington collaborates with business and community agencies across the county and state, including higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, and Leadership North Augusta.
Dr. Washington earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina, a Master’s of Education with a concentration in Educational Administration from Converse College, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of South Carolina.
